This week’s Write the Book prompt was inspired by Robert Boswell’s book on craft, The Half-Known World, in which he suggests writers find the “half-known world” where surprise and meaning meet. For your prompt, think about surprise converging with meaning.

For example, a character stops at a convenience store: Who does she meet and how does this affect her day? How does it steer the story? Consider how a surprise encounter of some kind could change the narrative in your work in progress and how it might reflect the meaning of your story.
