Why Write A Novel? Why Anything?

In a post on Lit Hub, Suzanne Bern asks why we should write or read novels and why now? “The truth is that writing a novel is often a long, crude, insecure business with a dubious outcome,” she says. “So for God’s sake, why do it? Why spend years writing a novel, especially if you have no idea of what will become of it?”

This essay is long AF, but a good read.
