Extreme drought in Iraq caused a dip in the water level of the Mosul reservoir, revealing a 3,400 year old Mittani Empire-era city once located along the Tigris River. Archaeologists believe the city could be ancient Zakhiku, an important center of the empire. Teams raced to excavate and document as much of the discovery as possible before water levels rose and put the site out of reach.
