Whatever Happened to Trout Fishing in America?

Trout Fishing in America by Richard Brautigan

We love characters with funky names and a great origin story.

In a post on Lit Hub, Walker Caplan shares the story of a college student who changed his name from Peter Eastman Jr. to Trout Fishing In America, after a comic novel by Richard Brautigan. Apparently Trout America went on to have a relatively normal life.

What unconventional name might one of your characters take? It might the title of a novel or a song, a favorite flower, a product, or pastime. Indiana Jones apparently named himself after the family dog.

What would prompt a person to take such an unconventional name? What motivated their attachment, as well their need for a change? What happens to them next?
