New technology could soon allow us to talk to digital replicas of our deceased friends and family members. HereAfter AI conducts interviews with the living to create online avatars who will live on after the original’s death. However, while the AI can capture the sound of your loved one and predict some of their responses to questions and conversation, it’s not an exact science yet.
Other caveats include the ethics of keeping someone alive past their death and the difficulty of moving through the grieving process when the temptation to speak to someone you’ve lost is so close at hand. At worst, a person could lose their grip on reality or some other thing could get stirred up with the dead.
