The Book That Shouldn’t Exist

Baptista by D. Richard

While cleaning out their parents’ book collection, this book lover found a book called Baptista: A Quiet Story by D. Richard. The problem? No trace of the writer or novel could be found. A bookplate identifies the book as coming from the Chatsworth Institute in Baltimore, but no such place exists.

In the real world, this person failed Google 101. Shortly after this story was posted on Facebook, users shared multiple online references to the author, title, and the Chatsworth Institute.

But what if? What if your character found a book that shouldn’t exist? Without Google, how could they track down a book when no reference to its title, author, date of publication, publisher, or provenance could be found? Do you have a literary mystery on your hands or a book that traveled through time or dimensions to reach your protagonist? What happens next?
