The Bag of Secrets

72
Original leather bag in which the trial records of Edward earl of Warwick were stored.

Between the 1400s and 1800s, the UK government maintained a Bag of Secrets containing the records of notorious legal trials, most for treason. The bag included documents related to Edward, Earl of Warwick, who spent his youth imprisoned after his father was executed for treason and was later tried for the same crime; Anne Boleyn, wife of King Henry VIII; Guy Fawkes and the other Gunpowder plotters; and conspirators who hoped to put Mary Queen of Scots on the British throne.

What other secrets might have been kept in that bag? To what lengths would someone go to reveal or keep them? Does the government of your fantasy novel have a similar cache? What happens next?
