You might think the idea of improving life on Earth by destroying the Moon would be something from fiction or at the very least, many decades ago. But no, as recently as 1991, Iowa State mathematics professor Alexander Abian thought blowing up the Moon with atomic bombs would solve all our problems. Specifically, he believed that Earth would stop tilting, which would eliminate seasonal changes and extreme weather events like flooding and blizzards. The downside? Blowing up the Moon would like send giant Moon chunks slamming into our planet, eliminating all life on Earth. In fairness, that would solve all our problems.

Interesting idea for a character. What happens next?
