In a recent post, Lee Lofland says that rain isn’t a cop’s friend. We don’t care for rainy days, but there are a lot of good reasons why they present extra challenges for the police, such as:
- Keeping weapons, ammunition, and equipment clean and dry
- Chasing a suspect over wet and muddy streets or grass
- Struggling to put handcuffs on a wet and slippery suspect
- Hydroplaning during a high-speed chase
- Navigating distractions – noise, glare, extra lights
- Protecting crime scene evidence from being contaminated or destroyed
