Nothing Sadder Than a Cop in the Rain

In a recent post, Lee Lofland says that rain isn’t a cop’s friend. We don’t care for rainy days, but there are a lot of good reasons why they present extra challenges for the police, such as:

  • Keeping weapons, ammunition, and equipment clean and dry
  • Chasing a suspect over wet and muddy streets or grass
  • Struggling to put handcuffs on a wet and slippery suspect
  • Hydroplaning during a high-speed chase
  • Navigating distractions – noise, glare, extra lights
  • Protecting crime scene evidence from being contaminated or destroyed
