In a guest post on DIY MFA, writer Khanh Ha (Mrs. Rossi’s Dream) offers advice for writers on topics ranging from writing routines to characterization and revisions. When it comes to difficult writing days, he says the following:

“There are no hard scenes to write. Really. Those so-called difficult scenes are what writers make them out to be with their paranoia. So before they can write such scenes, their anxiety has already killed their creativity to write them.”

Excellent advice. When you approach your writing, bring enthusiasm, not dread. Tackle your “difficult” scenes with a sense of adventure and discovery. Even if you don’t know exactly what will happen. Even if you aren’t sure the scene will have the emotional impact required for this part of your story. Write with confidence and with surety that you’ll work through the obstacles in your path.
