A new study published in Nature Communications suggests that the 15 mile-thick icy shelf on the Jupiter moon of Europa is more porous than previously believed and might have multiple pockets of water that could support life. While Europa is about a quarter the size of Earth, scientists think the moon could have twice as much water in its oceans. While it’s long been believed that the thick ice shelf would make it impossible to find life, these new discoveries suggest it’s not impossible.
The chances of humanity reaching Europa in our lifetime are pretty slim, which means whatever you write today has an equal chance of being correct! Is there life on Europa? Who’ll reach it first? How will we compete for her resources? What happens next?
