A new study has determined that the oldest known Homo sapiens fossils ever discovered in East Africa – the Omo I and Herto fossils – are tens of thousands of years older than first believed.
Previously, experts thought the fossils were between 155,000 and 160,000 years old, or perhaps as old as 197,000 years old. Now they believe the fossils date back 233,000 years.
