During an interview with Lit Hub’s I’m a Writer But…podcast, Ben Winters (The Last Policeman series, The Quiet Boy) talks about migrating away from genre work for his latest novel, which he says is his most personal.
“At some point it was like, ok, maybe I’m old enough or maybe I’m good enough and confident enough to let those layers peel away a little,” Winters says. “Because I think it’s easier emotionally to write from a place that’s like, well, I’m just going to come up with some crazy stuff and it’s not really going to be me writing.”
