In Romania, the small town of Costesti boasts boulders–called trovants or living rocks–that excrete smaller versions of themselves, like little zits. When rainwater interacts with the mineral content of the stones, their insides ooze out in smaller form. Some observers believe that the boulders are sandstone concretions with tough outer layers of sand. When the sand erodes, the internal organs pop out, though very slowly. Like 2 inches per 1200 years slowly. Makes you wonder how anyone noticed it happening.
Personally, I welcome our slow to emerge rock overlords. What happens next?
