In a post on the Stage 32 blog, Sean LaFollette says that taking action is more important than having ideas. “Ideas are a dime a dozen, it’s the person who takes action that comes out on top,” he says. “It doesn’t matter how amazing/terrible you might be at something, without action, you won’t experience any growth and you won’t progress toward your goals.”
Unfortunately, taking action gives rise to the possibility of failure, but that’s a good thing. Failure is how you learn. “Seek failure and seek it often,” LaFollette writes. “Take more action, better action, faster action and you’ll see exponential growth.”
Prepare and take action for the job you want. Writers write. They share their work and improve their craft. Eventually, they work to get published, either traditionally or DIY. “I urge you now to take action,” LaFollette says. “Sit down, and think about the career you want. Lay out the path and take action, like speaking with others who can help you determine that path forward. Make progress towards your goals. Fight for your dreams. It’s going to be a long, tough road. Keep your head up and keep moving forward. The journey is worth it.”
