The New Year is a good time to throw out old habits and start fresh in the coming months. In a post on the Stage 32 blog, Justin Osborne offers 20 tips for getting organized for your creative projects. “Becoming an organized individual isn’t just about working in clean environments or managing time properly,” he says. “It is also about organizing your thoughts, emotions, and actions in such a way that nothing and no one can stop you from reaching your objectives.”

Some of Osborne’s suggestions include:

  • Be minimalist. Buy what you need, not the latest fad products. A simple yellow pad works as well as a bullet journal. This also applies to irrelevant people and responsibilities. Travel light!
  • Be clean. Keep your desk, room, and schedule clean so that you have the mental and physical space to work.
  • Be goal-oriented. If you set a proper course and stick to your map, you’ll reach your destination, even if it takes longer than you hoped. Set big goals, then break them down into quarterly, weekly, or daily goals.
  • Be healthy. Develop a few good health habits, such as staying hydrated or taking short exercise breaks. Do more if you want and can!
  • Be smart. Delegate the tasks you can and turn down invitations or requests that interferes with your schedule. Chop up big problems into smaller, more manageable tasks.
  • Be on-time. Be punctual. Don’t procrastinate. Hit your deadlines.
