In a post on Killzone, PJ Parrish says writing is a lot like gardening. “If you turn your back for just one day, both your garden and novel go to hell,” Parrish writes. What else do they have in common?

  • Find good tools.
  • Prune without mercy.
  • Weed every day.
  • Leave room for serendipity and whimsy.
  • Don’t try to grow things that aren’t really you.
  • Know when to give up.
  • Cultivate friends.
