This editor hasn’t done any serious literary research since college (Wiki-holes don’t count). But, those old term paper skills do come in handy when digging up period-correct details about life in rural America or the contents of the Victoria and Albert Museum in late 19th century London. During an interview with the Creative Penn podcast, librarian and writer Vikki Carter shares advice from her new book, Research Like a Librarian: Research Help and Tips for Writers for Researching in the Digital Age.

“Research is a discipline, just like the writing craft is a discipline, and it’s a learned discipline,” Carter says. During the podcast, she discusses options for online research, how to approach experts, and how to avoid plagiarism.
