In a new post, Janice Hardy talks about the ways in which even non-mystery novels needs a sense of the unknown. “Even if your novel isn’t a mystery, there are mysterious things going on that can hook a reader and give them the same experience,” Hardy writes. For example, a fantasy world can seem strange and mysterious even to its denizens, and characters tell lies and keep secrets.
