This advice goes against the current zeitgeist, and we wholeheartedly agree with it! (Big Pulp is contrary by nature.) A new post on the Write Practice blog urges writers to save everything they write, even the crap. Especially the crap. Why?
- You can read your old crappy writing and feel really good about skills today!
- Your terrible story might have a neat idea you can use later, when your skills are more developed.
- You can use a deleted scene to tease a novel without giving too much away or spoiling the plot. If a cut scene is particularly strong, you can offer it as a freebie for people who sign up for your mailing list, or even turn it into a stand-alone story.
