Dubbed the Medusavirus, the virus was discovered in the waters of a Japanese hot spring. Once infected, a host becomes dormant and forms a thick, hardened shell, the outer layer of which is covered in hundreds of spikes.<\/p>\n<p>Though Medusavirus seems confined to using ameobas as hosts, we&#8217;re imaginative enough to wonder what would happen if the bug jumped to plant or animal life.
