A writer asks Electric Lit‘s Blunt Instrument column if she should be worried that her writing isn’t “on trend”, even though an agent has already expressed interest in her work. Fortunately, Blunt Instrument sets her straight – writers should write what they write, even if its lyrical magic realism.
Big Pulp wholeheartedly agrees. Writers should never force a story that doesn’t interest them, even if the genre is hot for five minutes. By the time you finish your book, the publishing world will have moved on to the next thing.
For this site’s purposes, I like being surprised. I’m also fickle and cantankerous. My close friends can’t guess what I’m thinking next. If you write what you like and you do it well, you’ll find your reward.
